Dic and Marcella culminated their 4 month immersion in Sri Lanka with 2 exciting events in May – traveling north on the island to Jaffna for several workshops with young people whose lives have been deeply affected by the 30 year Civil War, and a performance of When Caged Birds Sing, a collaboration with composer Gayathri Khemadasa and a powerful company of actors, dancers and poets. 'Caged Birds' which addresses issues of women, oppression, violence and war played to about 500 people at the University of Kelaniya.

Four days after ARTFARM leaders landed in America came the annual Shakespeare Slam, a raucous fundraising event held at Middlesex Community College. This year’s Slam was coordinated by a group of amazing volunteers led by John Shafer, the event was hosted by actor Joel Garland, and featured some wild performances of assorted bits of Shakespeare. Marcella and Dic, still delirious with jet lag, shared some photos of their Sri Lankan adventures with the one hundred plus attendees.

Now, our three enthusiastic summer interns – Kylie, David and Ellie – have arrived, and rehearsals began this week for
A Midsummer Night’s Dream. What an exciting young company we have this year!

Mark your calendar for July 15 – 19 and 22 – 26, and be sure to be a part of the TENTH SEASON of Shakespeare in the Grove!
