Circophony is a select new youth circus company committed to providing first class training to aspiring circus artists while creating exciting new circus performances which will tour to schools, clubs, fairs, corporate events and festivals.
Young people selected for the Circophony Company will receive a rigorous combination of circus training, physical conditioning and rehearsal/production experience. Members are expected to arrive punctually, attend all rehearsals and performances, work hard, be strong team players, and train independently outside of rehearsals.
Open to young people ages twelve to eighteen. Prior circus experience is not required. If you do not have circus experience, a background in dance, gymnastics, theater, cheerleading, parkour or serious physical activity is helpful
Membership in Circophony is by audition. Auditions will be held Monday, July 29, 5 – 6:30 pm, and Tuesday, September 10, 6 – 8 pm. Families will be notified of their young person’s status by Thursday, September 12.
Rehearsals will tentatively be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 – 9 pm at Oddfellows starting Tuesday, September 17. Attendance at rehearsals is compulsory – if you cannot commit to the rehearsal schedule you should not apply to join Circophony.
The approximate date of the Opening of our NEW SHOW will be January 17 & 18 at Oddfellows Playhouse. There will be rehearsals every evening January 13 – 16. (Because the Oddfellows schedule is not fully set yet, these dates could be subject to change). Tentative holiday schedule – last rehearsal in 2013 Thursday, December 19; first 2014 rehearsal Thursday, January 2.
The show will be available for touring throughout the school year, and Circophony members will be expected to be available for shows, including up to two daytime, weekday shows during the spring semester. Performers and their parents will be given adequate notice about show times and dates. We may also travel to regional youth circus festivals during the year.
Tuition: $250 (30 + rehearsals plus ongoing training & tour.) Some financial assistance available.
CIRCOPHONY CODE OF ETHICS
Working together as a small circus company requires commitment, hard work, reliability, discipline, mutual respect, sensitivity and generosity. Circophony members will be expected to model all of these behaviors -- in rehearsal, in performance and on tour. Members are required to attend all rehearsals, trainings and performances and to arrive on time, dressed appropriately and prepared to work. Cast members are expected to be role models for each other and for other members of the Company. The atmosphere in rehearsal will be a professional working environment, with all focus and energy going into the creation of a new circus performance together. Behaviors not welcome in rehearsal, in training, on the road or in performance include (but are not limited to): side conversations, gum chewing, sexual harassment (verbal or physical), violence or threats of violence, back-biting or talking about other people in a negative manner, drug or alcohol use or discussion of drug or alcohol use, non-supportive behavior, swearing and inappropriate language, and lack of effort.
All Circophony cast members are expected to live up to this Code of Ethics and failure to do so may result in being asked to leave the Company. Complying with this Code will result in a great process, a terrific performance, an experience of personal growth and joy, and warm respect from and for all of your colleagues.
